AVAX

Avalanche (AVAX) is the native cryptocurrency and governance token of the Avalanche blockchain, a high-throughput smart contract platform designed to enable decentralized applications and custom blockchain networks. Built on a novel consensus mechanism called Avalanche consensus, the platform utilizes a proof-of-stake model where validators secure the network and participate in transaction validation. AVAX serves multiple critical functions within the ecosystem, including paying for transaction fees, staking to become a network validator, and participating in governance decisions regarding protocol upgrades and parameter changes. The platform is structured around three primary blockchains—the X-Chain for asset exchange, C-Chain for smart contracts, and P-Chain for coordination—allowing for parallel processing and increased transaction throughput compared to many competing networks. Avalanche is distinguished by its emphasis on low transaction costs, fast finality, and reduced environmental impact relative to proof-of-work systems, positioning itself as a scalable infrastructure layer for enterprise and decentralized finance applications.
