FXS
FXS is the governance and utility token of the Frax Finance protocol, an Ethereum-based fractional-algorithmic stablecoin system. The token serves multiple functions within the Frax ecosystem, including governance participation where holders can vote on protocol parameters and upgrades, as well as serving as a collateral component in the Frax stablecoin (FRAX) minting mechanism. FXS is notable for its role in a hybrid stablecoin model that combines both collateralized and algorithmic elements, allowing the protocol to maintain the FRAX peg while theoretically requiring less fully-backed reserves than traditional collateralized stablecoins. The token has expanded beyond Ethereum to other blockchains through cross-chain bridges, enabling broader participation in the Frax ecosystem. FXS holders are incentivized to stake their tokens to earn protocol revenues and participate in yield farming opportunities. The Frax protocol gained significant attention in the decentralized finance space for attempting to innovate on stablecoin design by reducing capital efficiency requirements while maintaining price stability through economic mechanisms and governance alignment.
