Nifty 50
The NIFTY 50, officially known as the National Stock Exchange Fifty Index, is the primary benchmark equity index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India. Launched in 1996, it represents the 50 largest and most liquid companies listed on the NSE, spanning multiple sectors including information technology, banking, finance, pharmaceuticals, and energy. The index serves as a barometer of the overall health and performance of the Indian economy and capital markets, similar to how the S&P 500 represents the United States market. Constituent companies are selected based on stringent criteria including market capitalization, liquidity, and trading volume. The NIFTY 50 is widely used by investors, fund managers, and analysts to track market trends, construct investment portfolios, and develop financial products. As a market-weighted index, larger companies have greater influence on its movements, making it a critical indicator for understanding India's economic trajectory and corporate sector performance on the global stage.
